All of my childhood my father would say to me “As long as you had fun. That’s the main thing.”
Never mind that I was so serious all the time and still to this day remain pretty focused. But having fun? Hmm. To him, that was the main thing.
Now, decades later, I finally get it. Fun IS the main thing. It is.
If you’re not having fun doing what you’re doing, what is the point?
Life is so dang short. Literally. I wish I’d realized that sooner or at least figured out the value of fun a lot sooner. (Instead I spent my time with my nose in a book!) Intelligent? Yes. Smart? Debatable. But fun? Who does not enjoy laughing and playing games. Hmm. I guess you could say that was me….
But now, you know, the crazy thing is, I see it. Whatever life throws you, you can stand there weeping, or you can accept it. The best thing I’ve learned is to laugh and find joy and perhaps some humor in the mundane.
Everyone loves to relax — and to laugh? What a gift! Life is hard, often. You don’t have any idea about the shoes the other person is wearing. But, people remember fondly a person who gave them something to smile about. That was definitely my dad.
Do what you love and love what you do. Have fun! If you aren’t, then you’re doing something wrong.
Life’s short. Some of us get ahead. Some don’t. Be bold and be courageous — and smile. I don’t think anyone regrets that.
And that, my friend, is the main thing.
